Ancient Etched Carnelian Beads
Rare etched carnelian beads originally found in the ancient Girsu region of the Indus Valley, 2nd - 3rd millennium B.C. This set of 4 beads are in good condition. An ancient technique of stone etching, the carnelian was painted with a mixture of potash and white lead and then fired. During the time of their manufacture there existed an ancient maritime trade network between ancient Mesopotamian and Harappan cultures. Sizes range from 6 x 4mm to 7 x 5mm, with small .5mm holes. Sold as a group of 4 beads.
