HUGE strand of Antique Mauritanian Amber Bead Necklace
42" graduated strand of roundish-shaped beads which are over 100 years old and found in Mauritania, Niger, and Ethiopia. This particular strand came from a dealer in Mauritania. It is imitation (like Bakelite) amber made in Germany from plant resin, and are traded in Africa and The Middle East where they are highly prized. The beads range in size from 11mm x 18mm diameter to 23mm x 35mm diameter!! Stringing hole is approximately 1.5-2mm. The color varies on these beads from creamy butterscotch to nearly black. Some of these beads have heat damage (see photos), which makes them only so much more wonderful! 60 beads in total.
