Excellent strand of rare etched carnelian beads originally found in the ancient Girsu region of the Indus Valley, 2nd - 3rd millennium B.C. These beads are in wonderful shape, and the strand is evenly matched with round, square, spherical, tabular, and disc-shaped etched beads. The etching is from the result of painting the carnelian with a mixture of potash and white lead and then fired. During the time of their manufacture there existed an ancient maritime trade network between ancient Mesopotamian and Harappan cultures. 18" strand of 54 beads. Sizes range from 4mm x 3mm to 6mm x 12mm x 17mm and in between.
