#1 Quality Strand of Very Rare Oparté Beads from the 1700s
32" strand of #1 quality oparté moon beads. These are gorgeous bluish, glowing opalescent milky-opal glass beads. Dutch beads and from the 1700s which were traded in West Africa (highly prized and treasured by the Dogon people of Mali). This strand came from Nigeria. Beads vary slightly in size, but are approximately 8-12mm thick x 12-14mm diameter with 2-3mm holes. These beads are very rare in this condition, which is very near pristine (some with minor pitting and wear... these are 300 year old beads). 96 beads total.
