Ancient Etched Carnelian Stone
Rare etched carnelian stone (no hole) originally found in the ancient Girsu region of the Indus Valley, 2nd - 3rd millennium B.C. This stone is in good condition. An ancient technique of stone etching, the carnelian was painted with a mixture of potash and white lead and then fired. During the time of their manufacture there existed an ancient maritime trade network between ancient Mesopotamian and Harappan cultures. Size is 16mm square. Was probably worn in a ring setting.
